CAAD 13 aluminum vs. 2023 SuperSix Evo Hi-Mod carbon cost comparison
Cannondale has always continued to make quality aluminum bikes for as long as I can remember, even after carbon took over the top step and the CAAD 13 is no exception. The question is, is aluminum still a good value with all the reasonably priced carbon options out there?
Just comparing the framesets
The CAAD 13 framesets can be found for around $1000-$1400 and I’ve seen some go for even cheaper used. That usually includes a frame, fork, headset, and a seatpost. Comparing this to the new Cannondale 2023 SuperSix Evo Hi-Mod which goes for $4500 new.
Cost per gram saved
Since Cannondale doesn’t have them for sale as a disc frameset in the US, let’s go with the closest I could find as far as cost. Mikes Bikes currently has non-disc CAAD 13 framesets listed for $1009 so let’s just round it to $1000 https://mikesbikes.com/products/cannondale-caad13-frameset . So using that cost, it is a difference of $3500 between the CAAD 13 and the SuperSix Evo Hi-Mod.
Cannondale CAAD 13 frame weight
The Cannondale CAAD 13 frame in size 54cm weighs 1304g
The Cannondale CAAD 13 carbon fork weighs 429g
The 2023 Cannondale SuperSix Evo Hi-Mod Weight
The 2023 Cannondale Supersix Evo Hi-Mod frame in size 54cm weighs 818g
The 2023 Cannondale Supersix Evo Hi-Mod fork weighs 404g
Cannondale CAAD 13 vs 2023 Cannondale SuperSix Evo Hi-Mod
Conclusion
Buying the 2023 Cannondale SuperSix Evo Hi-Mod will cost an additional $3500 for the frameset but will save you 511g. While 511g is a good savings in weight, $3500 seems like a lot to pay for that savings. I could see you being able to use that $3500 to buy upgrades like a light weight carbon wheelset, lighter bars and stem, light weight tires, and more which could offset that weight difference. So if you are considering a CAAD 13 vs a 2023 SuperSix Evo Hi-mod Frameset, and you don’t have an unlimited budget, I would say to go with the CAAD 13 and equip it with some great components.
